About Me

My Apsirations

I'm Katelyn Chu, a current third-year student at the University of San Diego. I'm pursuing a Bachelor's in Business Administration in Marketing and International Business with a minor in Law and Ethics. My interest in marketing heavily stems from my interest in collaborating and being hands on with other people while also allowing myself to think creatively.  I'm currently a Project Management Intern at Laundry Service and I have been loving my role thus far. I can definitely see myself continuing through my future in project management opportunities. Learn more about what I've done during my internship on my Portfolio Page.

All my life I've been interested in fashion, an industry I hope to find my path in once I graduate from USD. I am not artistic or creative in traditional mediums such as painting or drawing, but I believe my creativity shines through my fashion decisions. Expressing myself through clothing and accessories in a sustainable manner has been an important creative outlet in my life. It would be a dream to be able to work in the industry in the future.

As I mentioned before, I am not one to be confined in a bubble. Some other industries I would be open to pursuing are opportunities in entertainment, environmental research, or historical institutions. These are three vastly different industries, but I would find interest in combining my business background with opportunities that lay within these organizations.

Early Life

People often believe that petals are the most important part of a flower and the most beautiful component, but every flower starts at their root. My root is Hong Kong.

I spent my first 14 years of life in Hong Kong, an experience that has indefinitely shaped who I am as a person. Growing up in one of the most fast-paced cities in the world prepared me with life skills such as adaptability and quick thinking because you never know what might come your way. I attended an international school and that brought me close to various cultures and customs, embedding the importance of diversity in my life as I traverse through my future. Although my life in the US is very different now, I attribute a lot of my values and success to the life I lived in Hong Kong; the root of my being.

Present Day

With any flower, petals reach the end of their cycle and fall off, but new ones flourish, commemorating the start of new life.  As my petals of Hong Kong life started to shed away, new ones grew as I started my life in San Diego.

I moved to San Diego a little less than 7 years ago and have experienced growth as a person that I don't think would've been possible without this change in scenery. The people I've met and connections I've built has become an integral part of who I am today. I will always be a city girl at heart, but I must admit that it's nice to have some peace and quiet in the calmer nature of San Diego.
